FAQ's

How do I clean my EcoSmart Fire ethanol burner?
Cleaning of the burner should be done only after you have used 50 litres (12 gallons) of fuel or as soon as you notice a black residue forming around or on the burner. Before starting, ensure the burner is off, empty of ethanol, and at room temperature. Spray a multi-purpose cleaner on the surface of the burner and wipe with a cloth, making sure to wipe in the direction of the grain. If any material has fallen into the burner, use a vacuum cleaner to remove debris through the burner opening. If your burner smells unusually strong after extensive use, remove the empty and room temperature burner from its surround and wash it in hot, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly under running water and wait until the burner is completely dry before placing it back into its surround and reusing it.
Do ethanol burners require ventilation or a chimney?
EcoSmart Fire ethanol burners do NOT require ventilation systems or chimneys. They burn clean e-NRG bioethanol fuel without producing smoke, soot, or harmful emissions. However, adequate room ventilation is essential - ensure your space meets minimum room size requirements for safe operation.
Flame Height of Ethanol Burners
The flame height is directly related to the level of ethanol filled in the burner.Think of the ethanol as the fuel for the fire. When you have more ethanol in the burner, the flame tends to be taller because there's more fuel to burn. Conversely, when the ethanol level is lower, the flame will be shorter because there's less fuel available for combustion. It's similar to a car's fuel tank. When the tank is full, the car can run longer before needing a refill. Similarly, when the burner is filled with ethanol, the flame can burn longer and taller. So, if you want a higher flame, you'll need to ensure the burner has an ample supply of ethanol.
How long do ethanol burners burn on a full tank?
EcoSmart Fire ethanol burners burn between 5-14 hours on a full tank, depending on the model size. Smaller burners like the XS340 (2.5L) provide around 5 hours, whilst larger models like the XL1200 (10L) deliver 9-14 hours of continuous flame. Burn time varies based on fuel capacity and flame setting.
What type of fuel should I use in my ethanol burner?
Use only e-NRG bioethanol fuel in your EcoSmart Fire ethanol burner. e-NRG is specifically formulated for optimal performance, producing the lowest odour, most vibrant flame, and longest burn time. Using any other fuel type, including gel fuels or other bioethanol brands, may damage your burner and void your warranty.
How much does it cost to maintain an ethanol fireplace?
EcoSmart Fire’s ethanol fireplaces require little maintenance. It is important to keep the lid closed when not in use to keep debris out of the ethanol burner that can cause corrosion and damage. The 304 stainless steel tank is built to last a lifetime if proper cleaning procedures are done when needed.
What materials can I use around an ethanol burner?
Use only non-combustible materials around EcoSmart Fire ethanol burners. Approved materials include steel, iron, brick, tile, concrete, slate, glass, fire-rated plasterboard, and fibre cement board. Avoid wallpaper, laminate, veneer, wood, or any heat-sensitive surfaces. Maintain minimum clearances as specified in your installation manual.
How is bioethanol fuel made and why is it sustainable?
Bioethanol fuel is made by fermenting and distilling sugars from plants like sugarcane to create pure alcohol. It's sustainable because it creates a carbon-neutral cycle - the CO2 produced during combustion is absorbed by plants during photosynthesis, making it an infinitely renewable, clean-burning fuel source.
